Do I own my website?

The Short Answer: Yes, You Own It

From day one, the website we build for you is yours. The code, the content, the design — all of it. We don't use proprietary platforms that lock you in. We don't hold your site hostage. We don't charge export fees.

This is a core Wildcore principle, and it's non-negotiable.

What You Own

Your Code

  • The complete source code for your website
  • All custom components and features we build for you
  • All configuration files, styles, and assets
  • You can request a full code export at any time

Your Content

  • Every word of copy on your site
  • All images, graphics, and media we create or source for you
  • Blog posts, articles, and any other written content
  • Form submission data and customer information collected through your site

Your Domain

  • Your domain name is registered in your name, under your account
  • We never register domains under Wildcore's name on your behalf
  • If you already have a domain, it stays in your existing registrar account — we just point the DNS

Your Integrations

  • Google Analytics, Google Business Profile, and any other third-party accounts are set up under your credentials
  • Social media links, booking platforms, and payment processors all belong to you

What Wildcore Retains

We retain the right to use general design patterns, component templates, and development techniques in future projects. This is standard in the industry — think of it like an architect retaining the right to design similar floor plans for other clients.

Specifically:

  • We do NOT retain rights to your unique branding, content, or custom features
  • We DO retain reusable code patterns, layout templates, and generic UI components that aren't specific to your business
  • We may showcase your site in our portfolio (with your permission)

How Code Handoff Works

If you ever want to take your site elsewhere, here's the process:

  1. Request a code export — Contact us and let us know you'd like your code.
  2. We prepare the package — Within 5 business days, we'll provide:
    • Complete source code repository (GitHub or ZIP)
    • Environment configuration documentation
    • Deployment instructions for common platforms (Vercel, Netlify, AWS)
    • Database export if applicable
  3. DNS transfer guidance — We'll walk you through updating your domain to point to your new host.

There is no fee for the code export itself. See What happens if I want to leave? for full details on the migration process.

What About Managed Hosting?

When you're on one of our managed hosting plans, we host your site on Vercel, a commercial hosting platform. Your site isn't running on some proprietary Wildcore server — it's on the same infrastructure used by Fortune 500 companies.

If you cancel hosting:

  • Your site remains your property
  • You can deploy the same code to Vercel (or any compatible host) yourself
  • We provide migration assistance to make the transition smooth

Why This Matters

Too many web agencies and DIY platforms make it difficult (or impossible) to leave. Wix, Squarespace, and similar platforms don't let you export your code. Some agencies build on proprietary systems that only they can maintain.

We think that's wrong. Your business's online presence shouldn't be held hostage by anyone — including us. If we're doing our job well, you'll want to stay. And if we're not, you should be free to go.
